Best way to learn about Auschwitz
I have to admit I did not know much about Auschwitz except that it was a bad place. It feels a bit surreal walking among those brick buildings, knowing what happened here during World War II. I didn't know that there were actually two camps, Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II Birkenau. I feel like I learned so much on this guided tour. I'm glad I came here because these horrors must never be forgotten!
Everyone should visit Auschwitz!
I wanted to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau camps for years. I knew it wasn't going to be a cheerful sightseeing tour, as I know a bit about the history of World War II and the Holocaust. The guide was very eloquent and answered lots of our questions, and I learned some details that I didn't know. For example, the logistics of Auschwitz were on a next level. It's hard to even imagine how cruelly the Nazis were to design this gruesome system. I think that everyone should visit Auschwitz and this tour is the best way to do it.

After the pick-up at your hotel in Prague, you'll be traveling in a comfortable bus. Our drivers all speak English, and the bus itself is climate-controlled, warm in the winter months and pleasantly cool in the summer. There will be several stops during this journey so that you can stretch your legs a bit, and visit the restroom.
AUSCHWITZ I - THE CONCENTRATION CAMP
The first part of your Auschwitz tour from Prague will begin just outside the Auschwitz I concentration camp site, where you will meet your local guide. They will lead you through the gates with the ominous “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign. This translates to English as “Work Will Set You Free", and you will learn more about the true meaning of this utterly cynical inscription from your tour guide. Next, you'll be visiting the administrative buildings of the Nazi SS officers who were in charge of Auschwitz. Notice that Auschwitz I is almost completely intact, including most of the brick buildings called the Blocks. Here, unimaginable horrors took place especially in Block 10, Block 11, Block 24, and Block 28! As you visit them, your guide will tell you more. Note that Auschwitz I was built mainly for political prisoners, mostly Poles who opposed the Nazis and Soviet prisoners of war. Did you know that Auschwitz I was called the Main Camp, or "Stammlager” in German, but it is in fact a much smaller camp than the infamous Auschwitz II Birkenau?
AUSCHWITZ II BIRKENAU - THE EXTERMINATION CAMP
On the second part of the Auschwitz Tour from Prague, you'll be visiting the much larger part of the camp - Auschwitz II Birkenau. This is the evil place that we think of when we hear the chilling word Auschwitz. It was an extermination camp used primarily to kill Jewish men, women, and children. As you reach the Gate House entrance, you will see the remains of a train track that led right into the Auschwitz II Birkenau. This was the last stop for more than a million Jewish civilians. From here they were taken straight to the gas chambers. You will have a chance to climb the guard tower above the grim-looking gatehouse. From atop the Guard Tower, you will have a panoramic view of the entire Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Later, you will visit the remains of crematoriums with the ominous names Kremas I and Kremas II, where bodies of murdered Jews were incinerated. As you follow your guide through the rest of the camp, use this time to reflect on the horrendous methods the Nazis used in this extermination camp.

How many Jews from Prague ended in Auschwitz Birkenau camps?
During the Auschwitz Tour from Prague, the following question may arise: "How many Jewish people that lived in Prague were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau camps?“
Due to the sheer scale of atrocities and the fact that Nazis actively tried to destroy evidence of their crimes, we cannot know the exact number. However, we do know that the Jewish population of Prague before the onset of World War II numbered around 92,000 people. Just to put this number into perspective, it was almost a fifth of the city's entire pre-War population! Of that number, more than two-thirds perished in the Auschwitz II Birkenau and other extermination camps. Although many survivors emigrated to other countries after World War II, some did return to Prague. The census of 1946 records 10,338 Jews who continued to live in the Czech capital.
On this Auschwitz Tour from Prague, you will be confronted with similar haunting stories. We hope that this will not discourage you but rather make you reflect during your visit to this important site!
